One hundred twenty households of Barangay San Carlos, a far-flung barangay in Valencia City, will have one less concern to worry about as its Farm-to-Market Road is set to be upgraded and improved through the government’s Support to Barangay Development Program (SBDP).

“Ang proyekto na dugay ra g’yud namo gidamgo natuman ra g’yud pinaagi sa mga ahensya sa gobyerno nga nagtabang ka namo. Kini mao g’yud ang gikihanglan sa mga katawhan diring dapita; mao nang mapasalamaton g’yud mi og dako,” said Mariza T. Labe, Punong Barangay of San Carlos, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the project, October 7.

[We have been hoping for this project for a long time and now, it has been made possible through the government agencies that supported us. This is really what we need here, which is why we are extremely grateful for this road project.]

According to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) 10 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe, this Php20 Million-worth of project manifests that the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte fulfilled his commitment to bring development even in the remote barangays of the country, including that of Valencia City.

He further enjoined for everyone’s cooperation, including the Local Government of Valencia City, involved agencies and the residents of Barangay San Carlos, to ensure that the said project will be monitored and implemented well, following the estimated calendar days of its completion.

“Despite the risks posed by the present pandemic, we will still continue to deliver the best public service that we could give to our constituents,” RD Agabe said.

With this, Valencia City Mayor Azucena P. Huervas extended her gratitude to the national government, especially to the DILG for making the farm-to-market road project possible not only to Barangay San Carlos but also to other eight barangays of the city.

Other recipient barangays that will be granted with farm-to-market road projects worth Php 20-Million, under the Local Government Support Fund- SBDP, are Barangays Banlag, Barobo, Concepcion, Guinuyoran, Laligan, Lilingayon, Lurungan, and Tugaya.

The SBDP is an assistance which was formulated through the institutionalization of the Executive Order No. 70 or the Whole-of-Nation approach in ending local communist armed-conflict. (DILG 10/RO/LGOO II/Rezza Mae B. Tolinero)
