KITAOTAO, BUKIDNON, Mar. 14 – As Kitaotao celebrates its official declaration as an insurgency-free municipality in the Province of Bukdinon, DILG Region 10 Regional Director Bruce A. Colao, CESO V, emphasized that sustaining peace hinges on strong and effective governance.
“My message here is more on the challenge after this declaration. Peace and development will not be sustained if you do not have good governance. The challenge for all of us is to sustain the gains of peace, continue the development, and insulate the Municipality of Kitaotao against insurgency.”
The military said Kitaotao is the eighth (8th) town in the Province of Bukidnon to be declared insurgency-free, following San Fernando, Kadingilan, Damulog, Dangcagan, Kibawe, Don Carlos, and Maramag.
Kitaotao Municipal Vice Mayor Mary Ann Angit echoed this sentiment, highlighting the resilience and unity of the community in overcoming years of challenges.
“Today’s declaration is a victory for peace—an achievement built on many’s sacrifices, determination, and selfless work. But this is just the beginning. We must remain vigilant, foster cooperation, and ensure that peace prevails in every corner of our municipality,” VM Angit expressed.
The event featured a traditional panubad ritual led by Indigenous Peoples (IP) elders, symbolizing the community’s dedication to unity and security. This declaration stands as a testament to the strong collaboration between the local government, security forces, and stakeholders in securing a peaceful future for Kitaotao.
The achievement was made possible through the concerted efforts of various local and national agencies, reinforcing the community’s commitment to lasting peace and progress.
