PROVINCE OF CAMIGUIN PREPS FOR 2019 NATIONAL, LOCAL ELECTIONS

To ensure smooth and peaceful elections this May 13, 2019, the COMELEC Provincial Office of Camiguin, spearheaded the Provincial Consultative Conference-Workshop at SP Session Hall, Mambajao Camiguin on February 18, 2019.

As part of the preparation for the upcoming elections, the conference was conducted to establish proper coordination and rapport among deputized agencies and COMELEC.

The conference was attended by heads of National Line Agencies namely: COMELEC, DILG, PNP, DepEd, AFP, PPA, DPWH. Their municipal counterparts were also invited to participate in the activity. Further, select local government unit heads from the province and the municipalities like Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer, Budget Officer and Treasurer were also in attendance.

The conference served as an avenue for the national agencies to give updates regarding election preparations and as well as inform other concerned bodies of their respective functions to clear the line of coordination and authority. Representative officers from the LGUs were also reminded to extend their assistance to their election officers. Moreover, members of PNP personnel have a vital role on ensuring that the election is secure and peaceful.

In his opening remarks, Atty. Carmelo Ravelo, Provincial Election Supervisor stressed the need to inculcate in the minds of the millenials, who are the biggest percentage of voters in the locality, the importance to eliminate the known practice of vote-buying in the province.

Education drive is set to be carried out together with the conduct of synchronized Barangay Assembly on the March 2019.

Atty. Ravelo also announced that during the information drive, Vote Counting Machines (VCM) would be available to give the voters a first-hand experience as to what the machine does and to properly educate them on how to protect their votes.

                Prohibited activities during election period were also discussed during the conduct of the activity.
