Following the series of orientation courses for governors, city mayors, and newly minted municipal mayors, 60 re-elected municipal mayors from region 10 are also set to undergo its orientation under the Program for Newly-Elected Officials (NEOs) on July 17-19, 2019, in Cagayan de Oro City.

The training-workshop will integrate modules on Building Resilient Local Governments, Leadership on Peace and Development, and Localizing the Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Strategy, among others.

The activity aims to emphasize the role of Local Chief Executives (LCEs) in the implementation of the Whole-of-Nation Approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace. It will also tackle the Community Support Program, the banner program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in ending local communist armed conflict.

“We urge our municipal mayors to actively participate in this activity for we want to align all our efforts to the national agenda,” Department of the Interior and Local Government 10 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe said.

“This is also a way in guiding out municipal mayors to effectively carry out their mandates in their respective local government units.”

The municipal mayors will be re-oriented on the disaster preparedness protocols and also be updated on the nationwide efforts for building resilient local governments.

Further, the localization of the Philippine Anti-illegal drugs strategy will also be included in the modules through an orientation on Executive Order No.66.

As an output of the said activity, the NEOs are expected to craft their first 100 Days Plan which will serve as roadmap for the first three years of their term.

The Program for NEOs is a continuing intervention of the DILG through the Local Government Academy that aims to equip NEOs with necessary competencies to carry out their mandates, and towards leading peaceful, resilient, and quality life for Filipinos.

Simultaneous training-orientations for governors, city mayors, and newly-minted municipal mayors of the Sanggunian are currently facilitated by the Local Government Academy.
