KOLAMBUGAN, TANGCAL JOINED HANDS TO AID ABACA PRODUCERS, END ARMED STRUGGLE

LANAO
DEL NORTE – To actively lay down the foundations of a strong inter-local
government cooperation between the municipalities of Kolambugan and Tangcal,
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Lanao del Norte
facilitated a meeting with the local chief executives of said municipalities,
Mindanao Development Authority (MINDA) membres and MS ABA Association representatives
on April 28.

The
meeting is also a follow through with the end in view of helping the Abaca
growers and processors, who were largely former rebels of the Moro National
Liberation Front (MNLF), in both municipalities to strengthen the industry and
improve the economy of scale brought about by the cooperation.

Inter-Local
Government Cooperation is provided for under Section 33 of RA 7160 otherwise
known as the Local Government Code of 1991 where “Local government units
may, through appropriate ordinances, group themselves, consolidate, or
coordinate their efforts, services, and resources for purposes commonly
beneficial to them.”

The
convergence is part of the engagements of DILG Lanao del Norte in actively
pursuing peace, development, and governance initiatives.

DILG-
Lanao del Norte as enabler and convergence orchestrator looks forward that
inter-local government cooperation will be a viable and sustainable platform to
advance lasting peace and meaningful development as envisioned under President
Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s Executive Order No. 70 and a mechanism to prevent and
counter violent extremism and promote good local governance.
