DILG 10 to LGUs: Don’t restrict cargos to allow free flow of food supply delivery
To maintain free flow of delivery of food supply and other essential goods, Local Government Units (LGUs) are hereby reminded not to restrict cargos/truckers of whatever type, in response to one of the directives of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on LGU’s implementation of community quarantine.
“Our country has resorted to extreme measures of community quarantine to combat the threats of COVID-19, however, our LGUs must not restrict cargos so as not to hinder the availability of food supply in their areas, otherwise the scenario could get worse” said Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) 10 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe.
Further, the Regional Director reiterated that the President has emphasized that community quarantine must be implemented strict enough to effectively contain COVID-19 but liberal enough so that people will not die of hunger, and orderly enough so that the country will not be driven towards chaos during this difficult time.
In a Memorandum issued by DILG 10, other protocols reiterated to be observed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are the following:
- staying at home by those who are not performing essential tasks and services;
- postponement of all activities that will involve gathering of people regardless of size;
- stringent social distancing; and
- practice of good hygiene and wearing of protective gear set by the Department of Health.
“Synergy in local governance is highly needed during these times; thus, the actions of our LGUs here in Northern Mindanao must be in unison with the national government’s directives in this state of national health emergency and calamity,” said RD Agabe.
With this, the DILG 10 calls all LGUs to adopt and adhere strictly to the said guidelines and protocols. (DILG 10/LGOO II Rezza Mae B. Tolinero)
