DILG CDO CITY TO PUNONG BRGYS:
BE INVOLVED IN ENDING LOCAL COMMUNIST ARMED CONFLICT
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 7 – Ending local communist armed conflict requires a whole-of-nation approach. Towards this end, DILG Cagayan de Oro City Field Office calls for the involvement of the city’s Punong Barangays in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace via operationalizing EO 70.
In collaboration with NICA Regional Office 10, DILG CDO City briefed the eighty (80) Punong Barangays of Cagayan de Oro City on the Communists-Terrorist Group (CTG) Infiltration in the Government and EO 70- Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) Call to Action.
NICA Regional Director Manuel M. Orduña personally discussed the nature of insurgency problems and some modus operandi of the CTG.
Moreover, DILG City Director Jane J. Docallos reminded the barangay officials to be conscious in addressing local communist armed conflict and insurgency problem.
“Notwithstanding the fact that violence caused by the CPP-NPA has not been directly experienced by Cagayan de Oro City in the recent years, history tells us that this happened in the hinterland barangays in the late 70’s,” she said. “Recent incidences of armed violence are also happening in the nearby provinces and municipalities which make the city also vulnerable.”
With this, she said Cagayan de Oro City officials must do their part to contribute to the solution of these perennial issue by ensuring that the delivery of basic services to its people are given priority. This is seen to avert possibility of their constituents to be recruited by left-leaning organizations which are capitalizing on government apathy and negligence to the plight of the poor and the oppressed.
“Good governance is one of the keys to address the problem of insurgency,” CD Docallos stressed.
Said discussion was tackled during the Liga ng mga Barangay Assembly held at City Grand Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City on June 7, 2019.
