DILG-10 TO LGUS: USE P2.4-B FUNDING CAUTIOUSLY
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-10 reminds the local government units of the 119 identified recipients of the Local Government Support Fund – Support to Barangay Development Program (LGSF-SBDP) to be cautious in using the funds amounting to P2.4 billion pesos in the implementation of their priority programs.
Undersecretary for Local Government Marlo L. Iringan, in his visit to the DILG-10 Regional Office today, challenged all involved to ensure that all projects are efficiently and effectively implemented.
“This program is a double-bladed weapon. When properly implemented, it will show that the government actively addresses the problems in the barangay. If not, it will be used by the communist-terrorist groups (CTGs) to taint the government,” he added.
Usec Iringan emphasized that bad governance is the primary reason for people to side with the CTGs, hence the need to intensify the implementation of Executive Order No. 70, of which a program under it is the LGSF-SBDP.
DILG-10 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe said that the aim of the program is to realize the plans and programs needed by the CTG-free barangays. “Once implemented, this will help alleviate the lives of the people and eventually stop the 5-decade armed struggle,” he said.
Part of the deliverables of the department is to institutionalize the ‘whole-of-nation’ approach in ending local communist armed conflict by 2022. (DILG 10/LGCDD/Princess Jia Andriza Artajo)
