CONSTITUTIONAL REFORM EYED TO GAIN SUPPORT IN CAMIGUIN
CAMIGUIN PROVINCE, Jan 17— Aiming to gain more support for the move to amend the 1987 constitution, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Camiguin Provincial Office, in cooperation with the Province of Camiguin, conducted a Constitutional Reform (CoRe) Provincial Roadshow on January 17, 2020 at the Camiguin Convention Center.
Attended by Local Chief Executives (LCEs), Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members (SP), Punong Barangays, SK Chairmen and Secretaries, Civil Society Organizations (CSO), National Government Agencies (NGA), and student leaders in the entire province of Camiguin, the CoRe Provincial Roadshow seeks to showcase the advantage of the changing the present constitution; from breaking the present unitary system to empowering regions.
Local Chief Executive of the Province of Camiguin, Governor Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo expressed support to the constitutional reform. saying, “Whatever amendments, as long as it is acceptable by the Filipino people and decision of the many, we will support.”
The roadshow also included inputs from the Member of Parliament, Bangsamoro Transition Authority, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Prof Eddie M. Alih who discussed the Philippine Experience in the Unitary System (History and Weakness) and explained reasons regarding the reformation of the constitution both in the political and fiscal system.
Further, Prof Alih highlighted four pillars required amendments out of the weakness of the unitary system embodied in the 1987 Constitution. Among others, he cited political and electoral reforms, economic reform, and empowering of regions which will be addressed by the constitutional reform.
Municipal Mayors of the five municipalities of the province Hon. Kiterio Antonio U. Palarca II of Catarman, Hon. Rogerio C. Acle of Mahinog, Hon. Ynigo Jesus D. Romualdo of Mambajao, and Hon. Joseph G. Uayan of Sagay participated in the Constitutional Reform Convention-Plenary and expressed their message of support to the reformation of the constitution.
