CDO TASK GROUP ON FIRECRACKERS DISPOSES EXPIRED, UNLICENSED FIREWORKS SEIZED FROM DECEMBER 2020 INSPECTION
The Cagayan de Oro City Task Group on Firecrackers chaired by DILG City Director Jane Docallos disposed its confiscated firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices last Friday, March 26, 2021, at Upper Gusa.
The firecrackers, which were disposed through burning, were confiscated by the Task Group during its inspection activity last December 2020. Upon inspection, the said items were found to have expired or no DTI manufacturers license and were confiscated to ensure public safety.
Personnel from DILG Cagayan de Oro City, PNP Regional Civil Security Unit, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), Bureau of Fire Protection 10 (BFP 10), City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD), and
the city’s Regulatory Compliance Board (RCB) were present during the burning activity to ensure the safety of the disposal.
The CDO Task Group on Firecrackers was created to help minimize if not eliminate, the substantial number of fire-cracker related injuries and casualties each year. At present, there are designated areas in the city for the sale, accreditation and display of fireworks with license.
The regulated sale, distribution and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices is based on RA 7183 and in line with Executive Order No. 28 S. 2017 entitled, “Providing for the Regulation and Control of the Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices”.
The said EO authorizes local chief executives to implement rules and regulations on firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in conformity with national standards, and provides that concerned agencies and LGUs shall be responsible for the conduct of inspection, confiscation, and destruction of prohibited firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.
