CAMIGUIN UPHOLDS
ITS ‘PEACEFUL ISLAND’ STATUS

          Province of Camiguin, dubbed as the “island born of fire”, continually blazes up its “peaceful island” status.

          This was discussed during the 2nd Quarter Joint Council Meeting, as the Province of Camiguin gathered its regular members and invited guests to look into different issues which affects the over-all situation on peace and order, and anti-illegal drugs status of the island, including the localized mechanisms to end the prevailing communist insurgency and counter threats of terrorism.

       Presided by the Chairperson of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and provincial governor, Hon. Marias Luisa D. Romualdo, the said activity was conducted on June 11, 2019 at Camiguin Convention Center, Pandan, Mambajao Camiguin.

      With this, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Camiguin Provincial Director Rhona G. Pedraza-Abadilla reported on the accomplishments and updates on PPOC- Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), including the 2019 Local Government Transition, Newly Elected Official (NEO) Program implementation, and RA 11032 also known as Ease on Doing Business (EODB) Law.

 

Updates and reports taken

          LTO District Head Jesus B. Longgasa provided updates on RA 11235 also known as “Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act”. This is a new traffic law which primarily concerns the new plate number scheme for the motorbikes to easily identify vehicles used in crimes. The law provides that all motorbikes shall place a plate number at the front and back side of the motorbike adhering to specifications required by the law.

        Meanwhile, on anti-illegal drugs update, 53 out of 58 barangays of the province has been declared as drug-free barangays.

         This is according to Agent Simplicio C. Bautista, Provincial Officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), as he commended the local leaders from the barangays up to the provincial level and concerned department heads for attaining such accomplishment.

        Further, on the sewerage system status of all ferry boats operating in the island, POR Carlos Oliveros of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said that Roros sewerage system had already been installed and regularly checked by the PCG during their entry at the Benoni Port.
