CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY ONBOARD
TO END INSURGENCY, ASSISTANCE TO FORMER REBELS PROVIDED

As one with the nation in finally ending insurgency problem in the country, Cagayan de Oro City pledges its full support in this goal as it launches its City Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC).

This is in line with the operationalization of Executive Order 70, otherwise known as the whole-of-nation approach in addressing the root causes of insurgencies and other armed conflicts and threats by prioritizing and harmonizing the delivery of basic services and social development packages by the government.

In Cagayan de Oro City, eight barangays were identified as Communist Terrorist Groups-affected/Conflict Affected Areas/Conflict Vulnerable Areas in the past years but were already declared “cleared”. Including its four neighboring barangays, a total of 12 barangays from District 1 became the main recipients of the CDO Task Force-ELCAC launching program last February 7-8, 2020.

Held at Barangay Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro City, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), a total of Php 556,000.00-worth of cheques were distributed for firearms remuneration to former rebels during the said launching.

“Maraming salamat po sa ating formers rebels at sana po ay mapagsabihan ninyo ang inyong mga dating kasamahan na hindi kayo nagkamali sa pagbalik-loob ninyo,” said DILG Undersecretary for Peace and Order. Bernardo C. Florece, Jr.

With this, Usec. Florece ensures the full support of the DILG to attain lasting peace and sustainable development in the City via ECLIP and other related programs, projects and activities of the Department.

Out of the 29 former rebels, 10 were already provided with immediate assistance last November 2018, while the other 14 received assistance from Misamis Oriental Province. A livelihood assistance worth Php 50, 000.00 shall be released after they have completed the appropriate skill training.
