In order to strengthen disaster preparedness at the barangay level, DILG 10 conducted three batches of the Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction Management (CBDRRM) Training from July-August 2018 at the VIP Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.
The said training invited 12 municipalities considered as “heavily-struck” during the incidence of Super Tropical Storm Vinta in December 2017.
Barangay functionaries were targeted by the Local Government Capacity Development Division (LGCDD) as they are expected to be the first responders in times of disasters and emergency situations.
“Make your residents understand that there is climate change. We must be prepared at all times and those preparations must be led by barangay officials,” RD Arnel M. Agabe said in his opening remarks.
The training was participated by Punong Barangays, Sangguniang Kabataan Chairpersons, Sangguniang Barangay Councilor for Environment, and Sangguniang Bayan Councilor for Women, Children, and Family, and Barangay Secretaries.
The said participants received training on the basic concepts of Disaster and Climate Change, application of CBDRRM, and the development of the barangay DRRM Plan, among others.
