For the Local Government Units (LGUs) to maintain and improve Camiguin’s Peace and Order Situation, stipulated in Republic Act No. 7160 and Executive Order 773, a joint meeting between Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) was conducted on July 19, 2018 at Camiguin Convention Center, Mambajao, Camiguin.

The joint councils approved the adoption of the three (3) Joint Resolutions namely: (1) Creation of Task Force Bantay Kalinaw along with the Establishment of an Operations/Coordination Center; (2) Requesting the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to Provide a Simplified Policies to Facilitate the Conduct of Drug – Clearing Operations at the Barangay Level; and (3) Contesting the National Historical Commission in regards to the identification of Cultural Property.

Attendees of the meeting include the Camiguin POC along with the PADAC-whose membership include Representatives from the National Line Agencies, all Municipal Mayors & Civil Society Organization.

Hon. Maria Luisa D. Romualdo, Provincial Governor and concurrent PPOC and PADAC Chairperson, presided the meeting with the following agenda: Peace and Order Situationer Updates; Priority Issues and Concerns relative to the Peace and Order situation in the Municipal Level; Committee Reports; and other matters namely: Camiguin Electric Cooperative (CAMELCO) on increasing electricity costs; and Maritime Sea Worthiness.

Hon. Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo, Municipal Mayor of Mambajao, Mayor’s League President of Camiguin, and concurrent PPOC Co-Chairperson, on CAMELCO increasing electricity costs, shared that it would affect peace and order because citizens would revert back to use of lamps, and in turn, increase fire and house robbery incidents. He added, on Maritime Sea Worthiness, that Camiguin, a tourist destination, deserves good and modern sea transport vessels, not floating relics. 

Hon. Helenio N. Abecia, Municipal Mayor of Guinsiliban, on his presentation, shared the municipality’s accomplishments, decreasing drug and crime rates, issues and concerns.

 Hon. Nestor E. Tongol, Municipal Vice-Mayor of Sagay, on his presentation, shared the municipality’s accomplishments, decreasing drug and crime rates,   while highlighting on the issue and concern on Barangay Tanod and Lupon Members training. Rhona G. Pedraza-Abadilla, DILG Camiguin Provincial Director, responded that the agency will conduct training on Barangay Newly Elected Officials (BNEO). He, on his issues and concerns, shared the need for life insurance of the Barangay Tanods. With this, Gov. Romualdo responded that it would be discussed for further deliberation.
