DILG – Lanao del Norte in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte (PGLDN) and Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of technology (MSU-IIT) signed a memorandum of joint undertaking dated May 17, 2018 for the conduct of the SK Mandatory Training in the province of Lanao del Norte.
As of May 24, 2018, a total of 2,891 or about 92.96% of the total SK Officials have attended and completed the SK Mandatory Training. MSU-IIT is serving as the learning resource institute between May 17-25, 2018 for the conduct of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) mandatory training for the newly-elected youth leaders of the 462 barangays from the province of Lanao del Norte.
DILG Memorandum Circular 2018-48 dated April 5, 2018 provides the guidelines in the conduct of SK Mandatory Training as set forth by the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015 or RA 10741. Section 30 of the Implementing Rules of RA 10742 states “For the purpose of emphasizing the role of the youth in nation-building and molding them to become better citizens with values on patriotism, nationalism and honor as Filipino, any SK Official, whether elected or appointed must undergo the training program before she or he can assume office.”
Considering the weight of responsibilities that have to be shouldered with the election and eventual assumption of duties of these young leaders, a series of trainings are being conducted inside the MSU-IIT campus that seek to prepare, capacitate and instill upon the SK officials the knowledge and skills necessary to discharge their future tasks and responsibilities in the province of Lanao del Norte. MSU-IIT conducts the series of trainings through its Center for Local Governance Studies (CLGS). It provides demand-driven training and interventions for local government units.
