Relative to the strong pronouncement of the President to immediately address the country’s drug problem, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a one-day Seminar on Barangay Drug Clearing Program at the VIP Hotel on April 25, 2018.
One of the strategies identified to address the social menace caused by illegal drugs is to increase the number of “drug-cleared” barangays with the end in view of eliminating both supply and market of these illegal items. PDEA’s objective in the conduct of the said activity is to properly disseminate the step-by-step guidelines in the conduct of Barangay Drug Clearing Operations (BDCO).
“I will keep serving the Filipino people by getting rid of illegal drugs away from communities—even when no one is looking, even when no one will find out,” PDEA 10 Regional Director Wilkins Villanueva said. With this, he reminded that Barangay Officials are the frontlines of the government efforts and should work hand in hand towards having drug-free barangays.
Punong Barangays, Barangay Kagawads- Chair on Peace and Order, Barangay Secretary and one member of Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Committee (BADAC) of the 23 selected barangays in the City were among the participants during the seminar. Among the resource speakers were PDEA 10 RD Wilkins A. Villanueva, PSUPT Robert Delos Reyes of Cagayan de Oro City Police and DILG Local Government Operations Officer (LGOO) VII Ms. Julieta C. Ramirez.
