The City Peace, Development and Security Council (CPDSC) held its 1st quarter meeting on March 3, 2021, at the Rosario Pavilion, Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City. During the said meeting, member agencies discussed peace and order and public safety concerns, and sets motion to its initiatives until 2022 as laid out in the city’s refined Peace and Order and Public Safety (POPS) Plan.

Among the main issues raised are road accidents and traffic management issues within the city. With this, the Council eyes to revisit strategies in collaboration with the City Traffic Management Board (TMB).

“We see the interrelatedness of issues, especially with the implementation of the road clearing program. It seeks to remove and clear the roads from obstructions such as structures, vehicles, garbage, and even posts that are in road shoulders,” said Dir. Jane J. Docallos, DILG Cagayan de Oro City.

On peace and order, the City eyes to conduct its community profiling in target barangays. This initiative aims to identify issues at the community level as a means to scale up government interventions in CDO in line implementation of ELCAC.

Further, initial agreements were made in preparation for the conduct of sectoral unification activities for the youth, with the implementation of Capacitating Urban Communities for Peace and Development (CUCPD). It was agreed to include IPs as one of the target sectors for the CUCPD on top of the five main sectors envisioned under the program.

Unlike other HUCs in the country, Cagayan de Oro City has IPs in its hinterland barangays. City Administrator Teddy Sabuga-a Jr added that IPs in general, are among the most exploited sectors. (DILG 10/DILG Cagayan de Oro/Charlotte Dominique C. Cubero)
